Cooper DeJean, the Philadelphia Eagles defensive back, is causing a frenzy in his hometown of Odebolt, Iowa. The small farm town with a population of 920 is gearing up for a massive celebration to support their native son as he plays in the Super Bowl. Residents are coming together at the Odebolt Community Building for a watch party dubbed the “Cooper Bowl,” complete with special Eagles green T-shirts featuring DeJean’s No. 33. It’s not just any watch party, but also a birthday celebration for DeJean, who will be turning 22 on Super Bowl Sunday.
“I would say it has brought a renewed energy back to the community,” one local resident said. “It has definitely uplifted everybody around here.”
The excitement is palpable, with fans like Duff, a die-hard Denver Broncos supporter, proudly donning his DeJean jersey. “Everybody around here has their own team, but whenever the Eagles are playing, everyone’s watching,” Duff exclaimed.
DeJean’s father, Jason, was especially moved by a heartwarming video put together by school employees, showcasing children and teachers sending well wishes to his son for the big game. “They all got on the playground and spelled out ‘Cooper,’” Jason shared. The video, filled with adorable moments, captures elementary school kids mimicking birds as they sing the Eagles’ fight song, “Fly Eagles Fly.”
Having excelled on the football field at the University of Iowa, DeJean’s success has united the community in unwavering support. “Now you see Eagle jerseys and 33 and all that stuff. It’s great to see, and you couldn’t ask for any more support than what this community gives,” Jason DeJean added.
With a standout high school career that included back-to-back state championships and an All-American honor at the University of Iowa, DeJean’s journey to the NFL was nothing short of remarkable. In the 2024 draft, the Eagles picked him in the second round.
“It’s not very often a kid from a town of less than 1,000 people gets to go to the Super Bowl,” Duff remarked.
DeJean’s rise to the Super Bowl has not only put Odebolt on the map but has also shone a light on the idyllic surroundings of the town. Nestled among the Loess Hills in western Iowa, Odebolt is part of a network of small towns linked by a scenic 20-mile stretch of Iowa Highway 175.
DeJean’s success story has become a source of pride for the tight-knit community, showcasing the power of perseverance and dedication. As the Super Bowl approaches, Odebolt stands ready to cheer on their hometown hero, who is living out his dream on football’s biggest stage.
